The NY Times (www.nytimes.com) published an unsettling story about censorship and the American Family Association (www.afa.net), who protested for Bono’s f-word on tv, or for Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan. This last is certainly too graphic a portrait of the war, isn’t it. Now tv stations are self-censoring, newspapers follow, for fear of contradicting the apparatchnik. Also, very interesting the government semiotic theory on the meaning of reality and its construction: “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality”. See http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/21/arts/21rich.html.
