A new report from Forrest Research -as published by the New York Times (An Online Outlet for Creating and Socializing)- shows that Social Web users are creative and have a rich social life. The concept, which has been a theme of discussion over the years as well as the focus of  recent research work, is of great value: social Web sites and new media actually help people be **more** social and more socially connected, as Manuel Castells and others have shown repeatedly. People tended to think of online time as “alienating” and useless, thus these studies are important because show a sort of counter intuitive idea.

This particular result shows that half of US adults belong to some social network, while 4 of 5 adults use social media like blogs. The most growth in social networking is reported among adults 35 years of age or older.
