Wierd: in the last months I have been posting almost only on cinema. But it was by sheer chance if I stumbled upon Jules Verne this morning, thanks to Google. I remember when as a child I read and dreamt with his fascinating books, especially the sci-fi “From the Earth to the Moon“, “20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” and the fun “Around the World in 80 Days“.
So I had some fun with my students, when I navigated Wikipedia to “discover” his works. We digged “80 Days”, and sure enough everybody remembers the movie, but of course, not the oldie from 1956 but the remake from 2004!
Then we found Around the World in 80 Days -The Original Movie- and enjoyed so much watching the discovered 1956 trailer.
It’s a little gem, too long for a trailer, and the powerful off-screen voice must name all the big names in the cast: David Niven and Cantinflas as Phileas Fogg and Passepartout (Yes, it is that Cantinflas, the comic star from Mexico!)
Plus, Shirley MacLane, Frank Sinatra, and the wonderful Marlene Dietrich. Can’t believe it?
Wonderful Internets!
