NITLE Prediction Markets

NITLE Prediction Markets

Will the majority of institutions be using an open-source learning/course management system by spring 2010?

This innocuous question is part of a series of market variables, each with its current value. The value of that proposition as of today is US$46.01, which means the “market” (of investors/predictors) believes that the chance of a “YES” answer are 46%.

At NITLE Markets you get $5,000 (virtual money, of course) to invest. When you buy a share, its value goes up. The Markets interface will tell how much you have to pay to raise the value a certain amount. It also displays a graph of the share’s variations during different time frames, and you can add comments, too.

Regarding that statement at the beginning? I am already losing 1 cent per share…, but I’ll stick to my investment!

NITLE Predictions Markets was started by Bryan Alexander, author of Infocult, a blog on information: its culture, history, and role in teaching and learning. NITLE is the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education. It helps liberal arts colleges explore and implement digital technologies.
